It’s 1913 in Honolulu, Hawaii when we meet 9-year-old Emma. Emmaʻs a fixture at detention—yes, she’s THAT kid – but sheʻs not a bad seed. She’s just wide eyed and adventurous about the world, and the confines of school aren’t meant for her.
One of the school’s nuns, Sister Mary Irmgard, has made it her job to help Emma find discipline. Life at school can be lonely, but every night Emma looks out her window to see the last remaining monarch of Hawaii, Queen Lili`uokalani gliding through her garden. It is clear that Emma loves the Queen, an icon of Hawaiian identity and autonomy.
The Queenʻs Flowers is an adventure of reclammation, demonstrating the power of one girlʻs generosity to transform history.
