PIC Media Makers Workshops
The PIC Media Makers Workshops are a comprehensive development program that assists local media makers in their quest to create a sustainable business, develop quality content and locate funding.
Throughout the remainder of 2019 Pacific Islanders in Communications will hold workshops that will focus on:
- Providing a necessary knowledge base to start and run a successful small business
- Technical and business training programs
- How to leverage existing partnerships and industry relationships
- Identifying proposal opportunities
- Creating a Hawaiʻi Media Consortium (HMC)*

8/31/19: Workshop 1: Starting Your Business (9:30 AM - 11:00 AM)
From Concept to Creation, through The Paperwork Process to Funding Opportunities
8/31/19: Workshop 2: Creating Your Business Plan (11:30 AM - 1:00 PM)
Defining what a Business Plan is, Why they’re needed, Business Plan Elements and Drafting a Business Plan
9/7/19: Workshop 3: Grant Proposal Writing and Project Budget Development (9:30 AM - 11:00 AM)
The best way to showcase your project when applying for funding is through the treatment proposal. This workshop will give an overview of what you should know about writing an exceptional proposal and developing a budget.
9/7/19: Workshop 4: Ten Tips for Editing a Successful Sample Reel (11:30 AM - 1:00 PM)
This workshop will give an overview of what you should know about creating a dynamic work sample from what do I showcase to who is my audience.
9/28/19: Workshop 5: Producing 101: The Business End of Filmmaking (9:30 AM - 11:00 AM)
Dotting your "i's" and crossing your "t's". What are the things you should have in place to produce your project, and what should you prepare for.
9/28/19: Workshop 6: Industry Professional Q&A (11:30 AM - 1:00 PM)
Attendees get a chance to meet with Industry Professionals from Hawaiʻi that can assist them to further their project(s) and share their experience and expertise.
10/12/19: Workshop 7: Pitching 101: Preparation and Process (9:30 AM - 11:00 AM)
This session will begin with Jicky Ferrer, Former Club President and Vice President of Education of Paradise Hawaii Toastmasters, as he presents public speaking tips to build confidence. Then Independent Filmmakers and Pitch Veterans, Joe Wilson and Dean Hamer, will walk you through the fine art of pitching your project to get what you're asking for.
10/12/19: Workshop 8: Pitching 101: Learn by Example (11:30 AM - 1:00 PM)
