San Diego Asian Film Festival - April 20 - 27
The San Diego Asian Film Festival is one of the leading showcases of Asian cinema in North America and one of the biggest platforms for Asian American media anywhere. The festival is dedicated to highlighting the diversity and breadth of Pan Asian images, from impassioned independent voices and provocative documentary subjects, to the top hits from the world’s biggest continent and the latest works from the masters of cinema.

15th Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival - April 15
Located in a verdant, rolling valley far north of Tokyo, Yamagata City is the site for Asia’s first international documentary film festival. The first Film Festival (in 1989) was an event to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Yamagata City, the sponsor of the festival at the time, and has been held biennially ever since in Yamagata’s best season, October. The atmosphere of the festival is intimate, and affords Asian filmmakers a prime opportunity to meet with their Western counterparts. The reasons for it being a magnet for independent filmmakers are simple.

Creative Community Fellows - April 23
Around the world there are artists, activists, community organizers, administrators and entrepreneurs working as change-makers in their communities – using arts and culture as vehicles to drive physical and social transformations.
Sundance YouTube New Voices Lab - April 10
This lab takes place November 9-11, 2017 in Los Angeles and is designed for artists developing scripted short-form series. The Sundance Institute | YouTube New Voices Lab supports a group of 10 creators developing scripted short-form episodic content for digital platforms (up to 25 minutes in length per episode). This year's Lab will take place November 9-11, 2017 in Los Angeles, where Fellows will work with an exciting group of creators, showrunners and episodic producers to develop their stories in an environment that encourages risk-taking and innovation. At the Lab, Fellows will participate in an intensive writing workshop, one-on-one creative story meetings, writers' rooms, and group conversations about production, post-production, and marketing in the evolving digital landscape.
