The Hawaiian Media Makers Conference is a gathering place for Hawaiian and Hawaii-based communications and media professionals to share successes and identify opportunities for collaboration.
Lens on the past, focus on the future
The Hawaiian Media Makers Conference is a full day of event activities meant to empower our community, delve into the work we do using a cultural lens, and begin a discussion of protocols for visiting professionals.
This exciting event, put on by Pacific Islanders in Communications, will be held on October 29, 2014, the day before the Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF) opening night and is a wonderful start to the HIFF festivities.
Schedule & Agenda
Featuring over 35 presenters from all aspects of the media industry, from Hawaiʻi and abroad. Breakout sessions are distributed between three main topics: Media, Culture, and Business. Our lunch presentation will feature an all-Māori panel of media makers from Aotearoa (New Zealand) who will discuss building a native industry. In the afternoon, all attendees will convene for a Brown Book working session.

Q: Do I have to be Hawaiian to attend?
A: Everyone is welcome! The conference is hosted by Hawaiian Media Makers a creation of Pacific Islanders in Communications through a generous grant from the Hawaii Tourism Authority - Kukulu Ola Hawaiian Culture program.
Q: What if I'm not a Media Maker, can I attend?
A: Even if you do not consider yourself a media maker you are most likely a consumer. Our sessions will give you insight in the media you consume everyday.
